The Senior Staff Scheme, University of Lagos (CMS) Ltd. was established in 2005 as the SSANU Contributory Welfare Scheme, with the primary objective of promoting financial security and welfare among members of the University's senior staff. The Scheme was established to encourage members to save towards retirement or withdrawal from service, provide access to loan facilities, and invest members' contributions in profitable ventures for their collective benefit.

Over the years, the Scheme evolved through successive administrations and expanded its range of welfare and financial services. In 2018, it was formally registered as a cooperative under the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives and became known as the Senior Staff Scheme, University of Lagos (CMS) Ltd. Since its registration as a cooperative, the Scheme has continued to grow in structure, membership, and services. Membership is open to Senior Staff of the University of Lagos, both teaching and non-teaching staff, with a continued commitment to promoting savings, financial empowerment, welfare, and mutual support among members.

Today, the Senior Staff Scheme remains committed to building a stronger financial future for its members through savings, loans, investments, and other welfare initiatives.
